Rooney´s fast recovery

Rooney on Sky SportsI did not want to write about Wayne Rooney again until May 25 - the day of his next scan. But obviously it does seem pretty good so I decided to give you the latest news on young Wayne. Sky Sports says that England medic Leif Sward stated Wayne Rooney is making a “perfect recovery” from his metatarsal injury. Sward is confident on giving good news on thursday, the day of the actual scan, which will determine whether Wayne will be able to head over to Germany or not. Good news for England, not that good for Paraguay, Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago I guess.

Ronaldo to become alltime topscorer?

RonaldoThe player shown on the photo to your right can make himself alltime topscorer at next month´s World Cup. Gerd “The Goal Machine” Muller (GER) currently owns this record with 14 goals scored at only two World Cups (1970, 1974). Ronaldo scored 4 goals 1998 and he even won the Golden Boot in 2002 (8 goals) which adds up to 12 goals overall. Therefore 3 goals would make him alltime topscorer. If I had to venture a guess I´d say he´ll score 6 times this year which would be a new record by far - 18 goals in 3 World Cups - not that bad I guess.

Nedved to retire after World Cup?

Pavel NedvedPavel Nedved might join the retire-club after next month´s World Cup. The Czech Republic playmaker has slipped away from international retirement for once and is now considering whether to stop playing altogether.

I will wait and see. I want to fully concentrate on the World Cup, play good soccer, then anything may happen.

Seems pretty much to become the end of an era to me. Bergkamp, Desailly, Zidane, Nedved. Who´s next?

Henry to stay in London!

Thierry HenryIt has just been announced that Thierry Henry stays in London playing for Arsenal until 2010. He´s signed a new 4-year contract and all the speculation can now be thrown away.

I’ve never played in Spain and never will. This is my last contract.

I was just wondering about this statement. Given that he is now 28 years old this contract doesn´t need to be his last one or does it?

Bergkamp calls it a career

Dennis BergkampOne of those players I grew up with is Dennis Bergkamp and now he´s retiring. He´s probably one of the best strikers that the 90´s have seen. Now, after Arsenal´s loss to Barcelona on Wednesday he´s officially ended his amazing career. I really admire him for the goals that he scored. We will definitely miss you Mr. “Iceman”. The least thing I can do is show you a little bit of what he did in his career. Take a glance. Read more

Who´s gonna be the best “old” player?

Image: Getty/Shawn BotterillYesterday, Bob over at WCB was wondering who´s gonna be the best young player at next month´s World Cup. I would take this a step further asking who´s gonna be the best “old” player. My definition of “old” would fit a player that has left the magic 30th birthday behind. If you think about it there are some decent players playing their last World Cup. Who´s gonna be the cream of the crop? These are my suggestions. I´d be happy to include yours as well. Every player will get a personal profile in the next couple of days. Read more
