World Cup 1970
If you´re interested in anything that covers the World Cup the BBC has a series of articles each covering another World Cup. Today they´re striving Mexico 1970. It´s definitely worth a read. Mexico did have a lot of highlights. Gerd Muller scoring 10 times in 7 games, Pelé winning his 3rd trophy, probably the best Brazilian team ever and a lot more. Go for it.

No commentsMaybe the best goal the World Cup has ever seen
Tonight I was watching a documentary on Eurosport covering the World Cup of 1986 especially Argentina´s way to the trophy. Jorge Valdano was interviewed and he was commenting on the quarter-final against England. This match has seen 2 wonderful goals of young man named Maradona. The second one is in my opinion the best score the World Cup has ever seen. Take a glance at this my fellow soccer-addicts. Read more
7 commentsBrazil five times champion, only?
Given that they´re constantly told to have (and ever have had) the best players in the world I was just wondering why Brazil has only won five times, so far? Of course they play the game in a wonderful way but that obviously hasn´t been the key to a series of World Cup Trophys. Any clue what the key might have been? Read more
6 commentsWhat about the World Cup Allstar-Team?
Interesting question to ask. What will the Allstar Team 2006 look like? I got this idea from the World Cup Blog. Every World Cup brings up new faces that nobody really knew about before? Here´s the complete 2002´s team:
Keepers: Oliver Kahn (Germany), Rustu Recber (Turkey)
Defenders: Roberto Carlos (Brazil), Sol Campbell (England), Hong Myung-bo (South Korea), Alpay Ozalan (Turkey), Fernando Hierro (Spain)
Midfielders: Claudio Reyna (USA), Rivaldo (Brazil), Ronaldinho (Brazil), Yoo Sang-chul (South Korea), Michael Ballack (Germany)
Forwards: Ronaldo (Brazil), Miroslav Klose (Germany) El Hadji Diouf (Senegal), Hasan Sas (Turkey)
There´s a lot that has happened in 4 years of football. There are some of these players that we won´t see in Germany. Others are showing up but may have limited roles on their teams. And of course a few of them will be shining again may be even brighter. Therefore I think of Ronaldinho and Michael Ballack. Well, let´s see.

No commentsThis year´s World Cup´s for First-timers
Did you know that there are actually 8 teams coming to this year´s World Cup without having participated ever before?
- Angola
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Togo
- Ghana
- Serbia and Montenegro
- Czech Republic
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Ukraine
Well for everyone who doesn´t already have a favorite team this list may contain a pick. It´s allways stunning seeing what no-names can do once they´re set in the big business. I just remind anyone that Greece won the European Soccer Championship 2004. Are we going to see something like that this year?

No commentsWorld Cup´s History is against Brazil
Brazil may be one of the favorites this summer but the World Cup´s History seems to be against the defending champion. Since the 1930´s only two teams have successfully defended their title (Italy 1938, Brazil 1962). Nevertheless, I don´t really think those Brazilians have to worry that much about history. They actually do have one of the best (if not the best) teams in the field so we´ll see. I´m thinking about a poll who´s gonna win in Germany on July 9th.
2 commentsThe goal machine
Could you imagine or even remember a guy who scored 14 times within just 2 World Cups? At the end of his unique career, Gerd Muller scored 68 goals with a total of 62 international matches for Germany. What´s that compared to today´s best strikers I hear you ask? Let´s take a look at Ronaldo. He scored 4 goals 1998 and he even won the Golden Boot in 2002 (8 goals). This adds up to 12 goals equalling Pelé´s Brazilian record. But Muller even outscores them by 2. Stunning. Interested in reading a little more? Check out this article over at the official Fifa World Cup Site.
