Zidane wins the Golden Ball

Zidane

France captain Zinedine Zidane was named the most valuable player of this year´s World Cup. He can´t make up for what he did to Marco Materazzi but considering his play during the finals of the World Cup he was the most outstanding player for me as well. Read more

Klose to win Golden shoe

Miroslav KloseGermany´s forward Miroslav Klose won the Golden shoe for the best scorer. He scored 5 goals as in 2002 as well two clear than another 8 players that each scored 3 goals. This amount is the lowest by the tournament’s leading scorer since the 1962 World Cup in Chile, when six players scored four times. Ok, don´t blame “Miro” he did what he could. It was nice seeing him teach Lukas Podolski how to get stuff done. Thanks you guys for a great Tournament. Read more

We have a World Cup winner

italy

We have a winner. Italy won 5-3 over France after penalty shoot out. Trezeguet was the one to hit the bar for France for which Barthez couldn´t make up and so Grosso scored the decisive penalty to gain Italy´s fourth star on the jersey. Oh Zizou, what a tragic hero. Scoring the hell of a penalty, playing like a godsend once again but in the end one moment of unreasonable crazyness. It doesn´t matter what Materazzi said if only you kept cool Zizou. Read more

The World Cup Final has come

Zinedine ZidaneThe great day is here. This evening will decide whether France win its second title within the last 8 years or Italy will gain its fourth star. Tough thing. Take a look a the poll that is going on here on World Cup News Blog. We´re down to 50:50 with a tiny lead of France with 86 votes to 85 for Italy. Great, I hope it´ll really gonna be a great game. It´s still a little sad now that one great month full of football has come to an end. Read more

Germany saved 3rd spot of the World Cup

German team Copyright AFPWow, once again Germany showed why it has been one of the best playing teams of this World Cup. With a nice performance the defending champion of 2002 beat Portugal by 3-1. It was real fun watching the pre-last game just because it was one of the better ones of this World Cup but that would be a different topic. Read more

The pre-last game of the World Cup

klinsiWell, we´re down to only two games. The World Cup is almost over. Oh my it feels like yesterday that it started. Ok, back to business. Germany is playing against Portugal and I slightly disagree with others saying this game is or will be boring. The team that wins will be remembered as the third place, this is something. This doesn´t make up for playing in the final but still. Read more

This year´s World Cup squad announced

zizouThis year´s squad of the World Cup has just been announced. Some names that are occuring sound a little strange in my ears but ok I´m not an “expert”. I can´t possible think of any reason why Luca Toni and Francesco Totti are in the squad of the tournament. Both are obviously not fit. Toni has scored twice if I remember correctly. So I don´t understand it. Therefore I will name my own squad in one of the next posts but here we go with the “official” one. Read more

Podolski World Cup´s best youngster

poldiGermany´s Lukas Podolski has been named Best young Player of the World Cup. The 20-year-old Podolski has scored three goals in six matches so far and is quoted over at the BBC as follows:

I would have liked to have taken home the World Cup - but this is a great honour and is a great motivation to become more successful.

Tough call. Considered that there were others in the competition who might have deserved it as well. Fabregas is only one name. Podolski has been chosen in favor of Portugal´s C. Ronaldo because the portuguese winger was tending to act a little theatralic.

Kahn to play for 3rd place

kahnBefore the World Cup 2002´s Golden Ball winner Oliver Kahn lost his spot as Germany´s #1 goalkeeper to Jens Lehmann. Jürgen Klinsmann will let him play once again tomorrow in Germany´s match for the 3rd place of the World Cup to thank him for supporting the team mentally. In my opinion this is a great gesture which shows once again that Klinsmann is the right man for this job. I really hope he´ll stay after the World Cup.

Zidane to win the Golden Ball?

zidaneIt could be the perfect story. Zinedine Zidane could win the World Cup once again on Sunday. The World Cup Final is his last game as well and he is now even nominated for Golden Ball which simbolizes the best player of the tournament. Ok, I´d have to this doesn´t surprise me at all. The last games of France´s veteran were outstanding therefore I´m convinced he will crown his glorious career. Read more
