World Cup day 27 recap or - Zidane président
A whole nation was crying out loud “Zidane président” again which means Zidane for president. The last time we significantly heard that was in summer 1998 when a 26-year-old Zinedine Zidane just scored 2 goals against Brazil in the World Cup final in France. Yesterday in the evening we kinda got this feeling again as “Zizou” scored the decisive 1-0 by penalty shot against Portugal. It´s the perfect story. He will play his last match on Sunday. But this last match can´t be compared to other players last games it´s the World Cup final just as the best player of all time deserves it.
Don´t get me started on a discussion of who was / is / will be the best player ever it´s just my opinion. I felt kinda strange during the game because two of my favorite players were trying to reach the final. Figo & Zidane which is a little sad because it would be the last game for both.
In a game with almost equally skilled midfielders the forwards made the difference. Namely Thierry Henry. In a genious moment he dribbled through a couple of Portuguese defenders ending up in foul which lead to Zidane´s decisive penalty. 1 step, 1 shot, 1 goal. Bravo, Zizou.
Portugal will play the small final on Saturday against Germany and the sad thing is I can´t possibly hope for Figo just because my home country is playing but what I do hope is to see two great games with France being the World Cup winner. Let´s see.
