Edmilson to miss the World Cup
Brazil and Barcelona midfielder Edmilson had to be ruled out of the World Cup squad due to an injury to his right knee. Yesterday´s scan revealed that he would not be able to play any role in Germany. Not being able to support Brazil is definitely a blow for Edmilson who was one of the major players this year to help Barcelona to win the Champions League. He will be replaced by Mineiro of Sao Paulo. And even worse Gilberto Silva who played for Arsenal against Barcelona in the Paris final, may take his spot.

No comments“Sheva” to Chelsea
It´s official Ukraine star Andrej Shevchenko moves from Milan to London to fulfill his 4-year contract with Premier League Champion Chelsea.
I am here for the challenge and the excitement of playing in the Premier League,
the 29-year-old is quoted on the official World Cup site. Well this doesn´t surprise me that much once again Chelsea is on a buying-spree first contracting Ballack and now “Sheva”. Now they both now who to play for next season and all the concentration can be focused on next week´s World Cup (next week!!).

No commentsSanta Cruz fit for the World Cup
Contrary to predicted before Paraguay star-striker Roque Santa Cruz will be ready to face England on June 10 in the group phase of next weeks World Cup. He is said to recover from his knee injury in time and therefore it´s very likely that he will actually play says coach Anibal Ruiz. I like Santa Cruz but I won´t say I´m a fan. What makes me happy tough is that another injury played out well because I´m getting sick of all the damn injury news. Speaking of injuries. If you haven´t done so already make sure to vote on the current poll the next one will be up within the day.

No commentsWhat do you think of this World Cup goal?
A couple of days back we´ve crowned the best World Cup goal ever here at World Cup News Blog. We´ve seen Maradona scoring, without a doubt a wonderful goal, the most wonderful one in World Cup history as far as I´m concerned. The BBC seems to be thinking quite different. Read more

Wayne does it again. “Huh” I hear you say “Isn´t hasn´t he been injured for week?”. Yes he has but as the BBC reports he stepped it up a little bit. With the aim to be fit for the World Cup he started participating in running and ball training in England´s training camp. I´d like to call that good news. Overall he seems to make good progress but don´t get your hopes up too high it would be a much bigger disappointment if he can´t make it. The next scan will be Wednesday next week, 2 days before the opening match.

No commentsWatching Germany vs. Colombia friendly
I´m currently watching Germany vs. Colombia - Germany´s last friendly before their opening match against Costa Rica next Friday and I have to say I´m excited. Earlier today I was reading this at World Cup Blog:
A 1-0 win won’t impress anybody, they need to fire 3-0, or 4-0 against Colombia, to really get people inspired.
I totally agree on that, Nick and I´m glad to say that now that 70 minutes have been played Germany leads 3-0 after a wonderful Ballack header, a stunning Schweinsteiger free-kick and a strong Borowski volley. I guess those few people who haven´t been convinced so far are now likely to be. I´m really looking forward to the things to come up from next week altough I know that there are gonna be other teams than Colombia playing in the WOrld Cup. Cheers to a nice tournament.

2 commentsHeal Rooney!
Oh my goodness. I just opened my email program of choice - Thunderbird - to catch an email from World Cup News Blog reader Shean. He send me a link that points to a crazy site. We all know the stuff. Rooney is injured, we all hope he´s gonna make it to the World Cup, but if you take a look at this site you might understand why some people get sick of all the Rooney talk. You have to virtually “touch” his foot to help its fasten up its healing. Guys!

No commentsGermany vs. Colombia friendly recap
I´ve been reading a lot of the headlines of today´s newspapers here in Germany to get a general feeling what the 3-0 victory was able to do. After the lucky 2-2 against Japan a few days back I read things like “This is the worst german team ever” and today the same papers write calm and well-disposed lines how nice to watch yesterday´s match was. This is the paradoxon of football when you play bad everybody hates you, once you play better you´re everybody´s darling. Read more
