The 34th squad for the World Cup

I guess we´ve all seen the squads that are heading over to Germany. We´ve also seen a few surprises, some players have been left others were picked by surprise. Just think of Theo Walcott. German magazine SPIEGEL did a nice little survey of those players that have to stay home. I would name this the 34th squad for this years World Cup. Check this out.

Ok, I guess you´ll remember that I called the referee squad the 33th team so here we go with team number 34. Those who´ve been left out would make not that bad of a team actually. Take a glance.

Keeper: Jerzy Dudek (POL)

Defenders: Roque Junior (BRA), Martin Demichelis (ARG), Javier Zanetti (ARG)

Midfielders: Nigel de Jong (HOL), Shaun Wright-Philipps (ENG), Hakan Yakin (Switzerland), Ludovic Giuly (FRA)

Strikers: Jan Klaas Huntelaar (HOL), Sherif Touré (TOGO), Julio Baptista (BRA)

Not that bad, actually. For me there are still some players missing that would have deserved playing at a World Cup. My best example would be Netherland´s Roy Makaay. What are your thoughts on those who´ve been left out?

What you think of Ricardo Quaresma from Portugal ?
He has been capped for the u/21 portuguese team.

Yeah he is good, though. 22 years old and a decent player of course. His position faces big competition in the portuguese team so he didn´t get a chance this time, but he surely will in on of the future World Cups.

What about a team of players, who have had the misfortune of being born in countries that didn’t qualify
    I would play:
    Given
    Lugano (c) Hyypia Chivu
    Duff Sissoko Riise
    Martins Okocha
    Eto’o Forlan
Bench= O’Shea, Graversen, Recoba, Mutu, Gudjohnsen

From Spain right-wing Navas from UEFA champs Sevilla and Morientes from Liverpool should’ve been in. Morientes didn’t have a good year but he picked-up at the end and has the most goals-per-game ration of any Spain player.
