Brazil five times champion, only?

Given that they´re constantly told to have (and ever have had) the best players in the world I was just wondering why Brazil has only won five times, so far? Of course they play the game in a wonderful way but that obviously hasn´t been the key to a series of World Cup Trophys. Any clue what the key might have been?

Don´t get me wrong 5 Trophys are great and 90% of the teams will never ever win a World Cup themselves. But, counting from 1930, there have been like 17 World Cups and therefore 5 wins don´t seem so big to me regarding Brazil´s being that superior. Of course other nations have had great players like Maradonna, Beckenbauer & Co. as well but still. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on that, too. It´s nice topic to think about in my opinion.

5 out of 17 seems pretty good to me and if they win this year it’ll be 6 in 18 which is 1 in 3, a pretty amazing record.

I guess they were let down by slightly weaker spells through the World Cup history (the 80’s being a good example) but they’re still miles ahead of anyone else.

I totally agree with you but my point is if they´re totally ahead of anybody else (which they are) why didn´t they win more.

The 80´s are another good point. Thanks for your comment.

I don’t disagree with anything either of you have said. But did you know that Germany has been in just as many final games as Brazil?

    Hm, really? : ) let´s count 1954, 1966, 1974, 1982, 1986, 1990, 2002 anything missing?

Did you know that Germany was the first team to reach 3 finals in a row (1982, 1986, 1990)?

Brazil was the second team (1994, 1998, 2002).

When you write: “Given that THEY’RE constantly told to have the best players and in the world… I was just wondering if you are not really talking about ENGLAND.

Because if you read the football articles of the last 50 years in the English media, in Europe and North America, and watch the British, American, Canadian, and Australian TV, they always had -and currently have- the absolute conviction that England have the best football team in the world!

Now when the time comes to show in the international field who are the best, they always collapse, not because they are unlucky or under achievers -as many want to think- but because they are over-rated!

Brazil is the opposite; by far they have been the most successful national team in the planet, yes, proudly winning five times, all in foreign countries, and in every one of the four continent where the world Cup have been played until now; beating all the teams, including England that only won once, 40 years ago in its own turf, and beating all the rest of the so called great Europeans teams whom never, ever have been able to win a single world cup out of Europe.

So, intelligent, analytical people around the world who knows soccer may think: if Brazil has had those consistently wonderful results and performances, -even when they don’t win the world cup- there must be one logical explanation to their success: as painful as may be for some people to recognize it, Perhaps Brazil have the best team, and the best players and in the world!!!
